Literary criticism is my primary genre and I am working as a critic, mainly at Göteborgs-Posten, the second largest daily newspaper in Sweden. I also write chronicles, plays and children´s books. It was great fun to translate Harold Pinter´s play The Room to Swedish. I have a degree in journalism and have taught journalism and creative writing.
“Hommage à Karen Blixen”
Critics about my tragicomic play Öknen (The Desert), 2006, Almlöfs förlag:
“The text is not at all programmatic but light, ironic and tender. (…) It is both a light-hearted and thought-provoking little book.”
“Nelson combines sharp satirical verve with tender-hearted compassion … an equally witty as sad contemplation of existential vulnerability, the inclination for power struggle and the difficult art of human contact.”
About my two plays Snön & Hissen, 2009, Gravitationer förlag:
“Cecilia Nelson animates her characters through a well-captured language in their human situations and reactions, and they emerge clearly – in all their pettiness, grandeur and absurdity.”
